Covert, Balzano will lead MACS

HARTFORD — The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Late Models will make their only appearance at Sharon Speedway Saturday night.

Jason Covert and Mike Balzano will lead the MACS machines for the first time since 2005. Last year, Chub Frank picked up the feature win at Sharon Speedway. This year, Covert holds a 25-point edge over Balzano. Covert has driven to victory lane once this season, winning at Hesston Speedway June 24. Balzano also has one victory this season.

Jim Bernheisel is in third spot in the points, trailing Balzano by 45 points for second. Jeremy Miller and Mike Pencil are fourth and fifth in the standings, respectively. The top five are separated by 190 points heading into the 50-lap event at Sharon Speedway.

Joined by stocks, sprints

The MACS Late Models will be joined by the pure stocks and the Green Flag Sprints. The gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. The MACS machines are scheduled to qualify at 7 p.m.

For tickets the (330) 772-1186. Tickets for adults (14 & over) are $24 for reserved seats and $22 for general admission. Kids (3-13) reserved seats are $10 and kids (ages 6-13) general admission tickets are $8. Kids (5 and under) are admitted free in general admission areas. Pit passes cost $30.

Mercer Raceway

MERCER, Pa. — Mercer Raceway Park will return to its core racing program Saturday with another five-division program of the RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, Maurer's Trading Post Strictly Stocks and the Micro Sprint.

It's $10 Family Night presented by ZOOM Internet. Kids bike races will be held during intermission plus Approved Toilet Rentals will hold their first Corporate Night.

A second promotion is "Gearhead Gathering." All 4x4 trucks and all accompanying people in the cab will be admitted for just $20.

Corporate sponsor and former track champion Jerry Schaffer of Approved Toilet Rentals will give away five bicycles.
