Herminia A. “Amy” Bragalone, 62
CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Wasko Funeral Home for Herminia A. “Amy” Bragalone, 62, who passed away Thursday morning at St. Joseph Health Center.
Mrs. Bragalone was born Sept. 26, 1945 in the Philippines, a daughter of Crispin and Rose Delos Reyes Abucot.
She worked for the Campbell City Schools as a teachers aid from 1982 until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the Phil AM Club of North Eastern Ohio.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard L. Bragalone, whom she married May 1, 1969; two daughters, Maria (Eric) Kinsey of New Middletown and Christine (George) Zupko of Boardman; a brother, Roy Abucot of Vancouver, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Orinda M. Campana, 87
WARREN – Orinda M. Campana, 87, of 200 E. Glendola Ave., died at 6:06 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
She was born Nov. 25, 1919 in Niles, the daughter of Daniel and Mary Campana.
Orinda was a 1938 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and worked for many years as an executive secretary for Richard Walters and Associates, and later as a bookkeeper for Troutman Drug until she retired in 1990.
She was a lifelong member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niles, where she had been involved in numerous activities over the years. Miss Campana was a member of the Professional Secretaries of America and of the Trumbull County Secretary Association, where she held many leadership positions.
Orinda enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing cards, and discussing politics and current events.
She will be deeply missed by a sister, Adela Brutz of Warren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Peter, Daniel, and Eugene, and two sisters, Elma Campana and Edith Bruno.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Joseph Rossi & Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Austintown, with Fr. John Trimbur officiating. A prayer service will be held at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel Marie Chambers, 96
BOARDMAN - Hazel Marie Chambers, 96, of The Greenbriar, formerly of Struthers and Andover, died early Saturday morning at the nursing home.
Mrs. Chambers was born Oct. 10, 1911 in Teegarden, a daughter of Walter and Mary Siferd Hanna. She was raised in New Springfield and came to Struthers in 1933. She resided in Andover for 20 years before returning to this area.
She was a former member of the Andover United Methodist Church and attended the Struthers Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Chambers was very proud to be a 50-year member of the Miriam Chapter of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Fifty-Five and Over Club in Andover.
A wonderful homemaker, Mrs. Chambers enjoyed quilting and will be forever remembered for hosting family gatherings, her cooking and baking, and her specialty, homemade pies.
Her husband of 50 years, Ralph Chambers, whom she married Aug. 7, 1933, died July 11, 1983.
She leaves her daughter, June (Donald) Stoeber of Struthers; two sisters, Martha Blosser of New Waterford, and Edith Franklin of Salem; two brothers, Eugene Hanna of Columbiana and Paul Hanna of Struthers; three grandsons, Eric (Christen) Stoeber of Cyprus, Texas, Aaron (Dominique) Stoeber of Canfield, and Kurt (Shaun) Stoeber of Poland; five great-grandchildren, Colin and Hayden Stoeber of Cyprus, Corey Grimm of Canfield, and Isabel and Luke Stoeber of Poland.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two brothers, Winfield Hanna and Clayton Hanna; and one sister Esther Zarlingo.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, with Pastor Steve Breazier officiating.
Friends will be received from 5 until 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

COLUMBIANA – Juanita H. Cole, 70, formerly of James Street, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday in the Salem Community Hospital.
She was born June 21, 1937 in Johnstown, Pa., a daughter of William and Elda Yeager Kirchner.
Mrs. Cole had lived in Columbiana for 36 years, coming from Youngstown.
She had been a bookkeeper for Plumbing Supply and Hardware in Pennsylvania. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbiana.
Her husband, William Houriet Cole, whom she married Dec. 19, 1964, died March 22, 2003.
Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Elda Varner of Johnstown, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs. John (Tina Marie) Snoke of Salem and Mrs. Samuel (Lisa Ann) Damiano of Norfolk, Va.; and a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Sandra) Seesholtz of Johnstown.

ERIE, PA. – E. Stanley Dockstader, 84, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007.
Born in Elmira, N.Y., Nov. 7, 1923, he was a son of the late Roy S. and Gertrude Everts Dockstader.
Mr. Dockstader graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira and received a bachelor of Civil Engineering cum laude from Syracuse University in 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy and took additional M.B.A. classes at Gannon University.
He was a civil engineer in commercial construction and worked for several companies throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Dockstader in 1996; and two brothers, Lyle and Gordon Dockstader.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel Thomas Fearnot Dockstader; a daughter, Rev. Deborah Dockstader of Niles; a son, David Dockstader of Erie; a nephew, Dr. David Dockstader and wife Brita of Louisville, Ky.; a niece, Claire Trauth and husband Richard of Stevensville, Mont.; four step children, Janice Stauffer and husband Edward of Lincoln, Neb., Dr. Neal Fearnot and wife Sharon of West Lafayette, Ind., and John and Carol Fearnot, both of California; and three step grandchildren, Michelle Metcalf and husband Justin, and their daughter, Kaylee, of Lafayette, Ind., and Annette and Evonne Fearnot both of West Lafayette, Ind.

Michael was born Jan. 25, 1971 in Youngstown, a son of Thomas W. and Carol A. Hardy Doctor.
He was a 1989 graduate of Poland High School, where he played football and baseball. Michael attended Youngstown State University and the University of South Carolina. He worked in sales at American Prime.
Michael leaves his wife, the former Filia Sattarelle, whom he married Aug. 24, 2002; his parents, Tom and Kelly Doctor of Poland; a son, Michael T. Doctor at home; a step son, Anthony Tosca at home; three sisters, Dana Doctor, Camryn Doctor, and Avery Doctor, all of Poland; and two brothers, Jason Doctor of California and Shon Douctre of Florida.

William James “Fats” Dothard Jr., 67
YOUNGSTOWN – William James “Fats” Dothard Jr., 67, passed away at St. Elizabeth Health Center Friday, Nov. 23.
Mr. Dothard was born Aug. 29, 1940 in Campbell, a son of William James Sr. and Lucille Howell Dothard.
He worked for the Calex Corp., enjoyed putting puzzles together, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers games, and bowling. He was Baptist by faith.
Mr. Dothard leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Ora; two daughters, Carla Dothard, who is currently serving in the U.S. Army in N’Djamena, Chad in Africa, and Angela Dothard of Youngstown; a brother, Chauncey Dothard of Youngstown; two sisters, Vivian Kimbrough of Campbell and Tanzetta “Tammy” (Darrell) Dickens of Youngstown; two step brothers, Charles (Ivory) and Marvin Jones, both of Youngstown; a step sister, Lynette Jones of Youngstown; two grandchildren, Richard Houser III of Columbus and Danielle Dothard of Youngstown; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eddie Dothard; and two sisters, Wilma and Bonnie Dothard.

BOARDMAN – Services will be Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Mrs. Elizabeth Faehringer, 95, who passed away Friday morning peacefully at her home.
Elizabeth was born May 9, 1912 in Germany, the daughter of Friedirich and Sophie Gebhart Sorg. She moved from Germany to Canada in 1953 and came to this country in 1962.
She was a member of the New Springfield Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosemarie Heller of Boardman; two grandchildren, Jenny (Nick) Labrie of North Lima, and Robert Heller of Stonehaven, Conn.; and two great-grandsons, Nicky Labrie Jr. of North Lima, and Matthew Heller of Connecticut.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Faehringer in 2002; a grandson, Jeremy Bowser; two sisters, Annamarie and Anneliese; and four brothers, Hans, George, Herman and Friedel.

NEW MIDDLETOWN – Cynthia Ann Garovich, 70, passed away Nov. 22, at her home.
Cynthia was born July 28, 1937 in Youngstown, the daughter of Louis and Hazel (Gavin) Houser.
She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s and Ursuline High School. She worked for Gordon Brothers for 25 years as a service manager. She also worked at Byzantine Catholic Central and St. Ann’s School as a school secretary. She also worked at GMAC.
Cynthia was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. She was a kind, generous, caring person who always tried to make the world a better place. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved her grandkids and they lover her back. She was an avid animal lover and an avid book reader, as are her family.
She was married to Joseph S. Garovich Aug. 11, 1962. He passed away July 23, 2003. Joseph was a loving and devoted husband.
Cynthia is survived by two daughters, Lori (Alan) Garovich-Szabo of Columbiana and Audrey “Re Re” Garovich-Hanley of Hubbard; and four grandchildren, Noah, Jonah, Bridget and Zachary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; a brother, Louis Houser; and a sister, Audrey Houser.

Cynthia “Cindy” Germaine, 55
PITTSBURGH – Cynthia “Cindy” Germaine, 55, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 1, 1951 in New Castle, Pa., a daughter of the late Anthony “Edger” Germaine Jr. and Lillian Carangi Germaine, who survives in West Pittsburg.
Cindy was a teacher of the hearing impaired for the Pittsburgh Public School District and served as an interpreter for the deaf community. Over the years, she was a foster parent for 17 children.
She received a degree in Special Education from Duquesne University and earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She developed the hearing-impaired choir “The Silent Singers” at Westwood Elementary School.
Cindy was a member of St. Justin Parish of Pittsburgh and was active in the Cursillo Movement, serving as a music director.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her 16 foster children; and her many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony “Rock” Germaine III; a foster son, Dennis Santiago; paternal grandparents Anthony and Antoinette Germaine; paternal step grandmother Lucy Germaine; and maternal grandparents Thomas and Annie Carangi.
Calling hours will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. in New Castle.

YOUNGSTOWN – Robert L. Gruber Jr. passed away Nov. 12 at Camelot Arms Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Robert was born Sept. 10, 1961 in Youngstown, the son of Dorothy and Robert L. Gruber Sr.
In his earlier years he was self-employed.
He is survived by three sisters, Deborah Gruber and Elizabeth Seck, both of Youngstown, and Linda Sugden of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Wayman Trice Harris, 25
YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Wayman Trice Harris, 25, who departed this life Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007.
Mr. Harris was born Nov. 30, 1981 in Youngstown, a son of Wayman Trice and Jannie Harris.
He loved to work on computers, enjoyed rapping and was a producer of music.

WARREN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Warren, with Rev. William J. Loveless officiating, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at The Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren for Palma M. Kamer, 71, who passed away early Friday morning after a brief illness.
Palma was born April 5, 1936 in Uniontown, Pa., and moved to Warren in 1941. She was the daughter of George and Anna Seman McKito.
She was a homemaker and a 1954 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Palma was a active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she participated in the RICA of the church, its Altar and Rosary Society, and was a eucharistic minister. She enjoyed reading, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time and caring for her family.
Her husband Philip “Gene” Kamer, whom she married Oct. 8, 1954, died Aug. 16, 2001.
Palma leaves behind a son, Mark Kamer and wife Susan of Warren; a daughter, Debby Stapleton and fiancé Joseph Hornyak of Liberty; three grandchildren, Autumn, Analycia and Andrew; a great-grandson, Clinton; and two sisters, Bernadette Weston of Warren and Lynda (George) Aucreman of Bristol.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

ROCKY POINT, N.C.- William E. Kays Sr., 89, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 6, 1918 in Youngstown, the son of the late Robert and Amy Ruthroth Kays.
Mr. Kays was in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He worked for the Mahoning County Engineers Dept. as a carpenter for more than 30 years and loved woodworking and traveling.
William is survived by, his wife, Florence Dailey Kays, whom he married April 7, 1943; two sons, William Jr. and wife Shirley Kays of Diamond and Ralph andwife Gail Kays of Rocky Point; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren.

Mary Louise Lamb, 86
NORTH LIMA – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Boardman, with Rev. Philip Rodgers officiating, for Mary Louise Lamb, 86, who peacefully passed away Nov. 22, early Thanksgiving morning.
Mary will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.
She was born Oct. 9, 1921 in Youngstown, the daughter of Thomas and Marie (Carney) Loftus, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mary was a homemaker along with being employed as an LPN nurse for the Cafaro Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, and Dr. Scarnnechia and Dr. Dentcheff, where she retired from nursing in 1980.
She was a graduate of The Rayen High School, and received her LPN in 1957 from the Choffin School of Practical Nursing.
Mary had great faith and was truly a Christian woman. She had been a long standing member of St. Anne Catholic Church and St. Edward Catholic Church, both in Youngstown.
Mary was a devoted mother who always took great pride in caring for her daughters and giving of herself to others.
Her husband, William Lamb, whom she married July 5, 1945, died March 26, 1972.
Mary leaves behind to hold on to her memories her three daughters, Helen (James) Lafferty of Bryn Mawr, Pa., Kathleen (Mark) Barkley of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Anne (Richard) Canacci of Saybrook; and a sister, Katherine Gries of Boardman.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Jimmy, and Jack Loftus.

Maria co-owned Tony’s Pizza in Niles with her husband for 13 years before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niles.
Her husband, Leontino “Tony” Pietrangeli, whom she married Oct. 10, 1943, died Jan. 31, 1999.
She will be deeply missed by two sons, Pino (Jean) Pietrangeli of Howland and Frank (Sue) Pietrangeli of Niles; a daughter, Anna Pietrangeli of the home; a brother, Ericoli Butti of Italy; a sister, Edivige Antenucci of Italy; four grandchildren, Nickki, John, Angela, and Frankie II; and five great-grandchildren.

VENICE, FLA. – Ronald F. “Pope” Popio, 67, passed away Nov. 18.
He was born April 16, 1940 in Youngstown, and moved to the area in 2000 from Canfield.
Survivors include his wife, Joan (Kish) Popio; two sons, Ron Jr. (Paula) of Dover AFB, Del. and Dean (Jodie) of Jeffersonville; two grandsons, Christian and Andrew; great-aunt, Mary Popio of Youngstown; and sister-in-law, Janet Lukas of Canfield.

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church for Dorothy Radanovic, 92, who entered into rest Friday evening at Liberty Health Care Center.
Dorothy was born Feb. 8, 1915 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Steve and Angeline (Savic) Radanovic.
She was a 1933 graduate of South High School and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She was employed at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a registered nurse, with 40 years of service, retiring in 1977.
Dorothy was a member of the church and the Circle of Serbian Sisters. She enjoyed reading and watching the game show “Jeopardy,” and was very good at playing “Trivial Pursuit.”
She leaves her brother, Daniel (Ann Marie) Radanovic of Hubbard and many nieces and nephews, whom she enjoyed visiting with.

Martha M. (Musgrove) Schwing, 89
POLAND – Martha M. (Musgrove) Schwing, 89, died Nov. 15, 2007 at her home following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 17, 1918 in Youngstown, a daughter of Emmett and Maude Graham Musgrove.
She was a 1937 graduate of Struthers High School, where she was vice president of her class and prom queen. Mrs. Schwing attended Youngstown College.
She worked at the Struthers Water Company, Dupage Trailer, and was the executive director of the Buechner Hall in Youngstown for 33 years, and was highly admired by her employees and residents. She retired in 1983.
Mrs. Schwing was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lewis Schwing III of Poland; and her brother, Dr. J.E. Musgrove of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Her hobbies included her home, property, pets, and visiting New England.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Schwing’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman OH 44512.

Joseph Steiger Jr., 83
YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with prayers at 11 a.m. at the Rossi Bros. Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, for Joseph Steiger Jr., 83, who passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 22, at the Hospice House.
Joseph was born March 6, 1924 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Theresa (Klein) Steiger.
He was a nursing attendant for Northside Medical Center, retiring in 1986 after 33 years of service.
Joseph was a member of the church, the Youngstown Maennerchor, the German-Hungarian Maennerchor, and the Catholic War Veterans. He served our country during WWII in the Atlantic Theatre with the U.S. Army Air Corp, where he was missing in action for three months. He also served during the Korean Conflict.
Joseph was a wonderful person, always willing to help and very considerate of others. He was a great benefactor to numerous charities. He was an avid bowler and a long time sports fan who loved the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Indians, and Notre Dame.
He will always be remembered by his nephews, Jim Wiederman of Struthers and Gary Steiger of Florida and a niece, Theresa Schneikart of Youngstown.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Steiger, and a sister, Theresa Wiederman.

Steven Swartwood, 40
MERCER, PA. – Steven Swartwood, 40, passed away Oct. 28, quietly at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Steven was born July 4, 1967 in Erie, Pa.
He moved to Youngstown in 1998 and soon pursued his passion for photography by attending Youngstown State University to obtain a bachelor of fine arts degree. He graduated with honors and was consistently on the Dean’s List. He was the recipient of the 2003 to 2004 Joseph Salvatore Award, which is presented to an outstanding studio art senior. His art has been exhibited throughout Ohio.
Steven was most proud of his work with Youngstown State University’s SMARTS (Students Motivated by the Arts) Program where he was the programming assistant and taught photography classes to K-12 and at-risk/at-promise youth. He always had a camera close by and his work can be seen throughout the SMARTS Center, including a permanent exhibit of photographs from his work with the SMARTS Kid’s Club Opera Company in the SMARTS Gallery.
There will be a memorial service at the SMARTS Center at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.

BOARDMAN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at St. Dominic Church in Youngstown preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service at The Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, Boardman for Eva Szymanski, 88, who peacefully passed away Friday morning at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman. Eva will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.
She was born April 11, 1918 in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Antoinette Lagrotta Diorio.
Eva was employed as a young woman for the McKelvey’s Department Store in Youngstown. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Dominic Church and The Casa Savoia Club.
Her husband, Bernard “Ben” Szymanski, whom she married Oct. 3, 1946, died July 2, 2000.
Eva leaves behind a son, Ronald Szymanski of Boardman; a daughter, Mary (Don) Pisegna of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Paul Pisegna and Jennifer Pisegna, both of Cincinnati; a great-granddaughter, Sophia; and a brother, Joseph Diorio.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Daniel Diorio.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today, Nov. 25, at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.
Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery.

Ruby Lee Thompkins, 79
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – There will be services at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Church of God in Christ for Mrs. Ruby Lee Thompkins, 79, who passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Mrs. Thompkins was born Dec. 12, 1927 in Logan County, W.Va., a daughter of Lawson and Geneva Shelton Foster.
She was a homemaker and a member of the church, where she was respected as one of the mothers. She really enjoyed her family and loved cooking for them.
Mrs. Thompkins leaves to mourn her loss and to cherish her memory five sons, Algie E. (Loretta M.) Jr. and James R. Thompkins, both of Youngstown, Raymond L. (LaChell) Thompkins of Campbell, Eugene G. (Beverly) Thompkins of New York, and Bobby Joe (Linda) Thompkins of McDonough, Ga.; three daughters, Jackie (Jonathan) Barrett of Liberty Twp., and Gloria Thompkins and Maxine (Steve) Watkins, both of Youngstown; four sisters, Hattie Godfrey, Helen Pearson, Barbara Cook, and Claudia Crawford, all of Columbus; a foster daughter, Kathrine Carlisle of Youngstown; 26 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Algie Sr., whom she married June 1, 1946, and who passed away July 24, 2006 after 60 years of marriage; her parents; four brothers, Nathaniel, Thomas, Curtis, and Lawson Jr. Foster; three sisters, Ethel Mary Hairston, Travina Linvelle, and Sarah Jane Foster; and a grandson, Donald Thompkins.

William John “Toots” Tusin Sr., 85
AUSTINTOWN – William John “Toots” Tusin Sr., 85, formerly of Girard, passed quietly at his home on Friday, Nov., 23, 2007, surrounded by his family.
“Toots” was born July 20, 1922, the son of Joseph and Rose Pupic Tusin.
He was a tool and die maker, employed by McKenzie Muffler/Oldberg Manufacturing, and later, Commercial Shearing. He retired from Grace Exterminating Co.
“Toots” loved his country and proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII with Company C HQ BN, General HQ, from March 12, 1943 to December 29, 1945, in the New Guinea, South Philippines and Luzon campaigns. He was a sergeant and was on active guard duty with General Douglas MacArthur at the time of Japan’s surrender to MacArthur. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Distinguished Unit Badge, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Ribbon.
Before serving in the Army, herserved in the CCC and was stationed in Utah.
“Toots” was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald and was a member of the church choir. He was active with the Boy Scouts, was an avid golfer and was a member of the Camen’s Senior Golf League in Girard. He loved baseball and football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Matilda Tusin and Virginia Markovich, brothers Mathew and Walter Tusin, infant grandson Andrew Tusin and daughter-in-law Barbara Tusin.
“Toots” and his wife, Caroline Suzanne Makar, whom he married July 26, 1947, were honored at a party given by their children in July to celebrate their 60th anniversary and his 85th birthday.
Besides his wife, “Toots” leaves his sons, William (Jeanette) Tusin Jr. of Youngstown and Michael Tusin Sr. of Austintown; daughters Kathleen (Clifford) Mell of Marietta, Ga., and Eileen (Joe) Catanzaro of Austintown; his brother, Richard Tusin; and sisters Mary Markovich of Poland, Margaret Potkonicky, Caroline Palmer, Helen McVickers and Rosemary Gonda, all of Youngstown.
He also leaves grandchildren William Scott Tusin, William J. (Tammy) Tusin III, and Victoria L. Weiss, all of Georgia, Laura Holt, Joseph N. (Jaime) Catanzaro Jr., Brian Tusin and Michael Tusin Jr., all of Austintown; and step grandchildren Clifford (Julie) and Paul (Louise) Mell of Georgia.
He leaves 10 great-grandchildren, Emilia Holt, Allison, Thomas and Jin Mae Tusin, Katherine Hayes, Joseph P. Catanzaro, Anthony Catanzaro, William Garrett Reese Holt, and Layla and Penelope Tusin; and step great-grandchildren, Jake, Layla, Jessica, Zack and Bradley Mell.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald. There will be prayers at 10:30 a.m. at McClurkin Funeral Home prior to the Mass.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funereal home.
